Shout Out For Suffolk!

Brockdish, as you can see, is in Norfolk, but although on this site we have long referred to our close proximity to Suffolk, many of our guests express surprise and not a little delight when they have found during their stay just how easily accessible are some of Suffolk’s most charming locations.

Orford, Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Walberswick and Southwold have all featured heavily in national press and TV coverage for their ‘old school’ seaside charm with the Minsmere Nature Reserve a big presence in the BBC’s Springwatch.

Inland; picturesque Snape, with its Summer Proms, attracts world class performers and BBC radio coverage, whilst beautiful Framlingham is the subject of hometown boy, Ed Sheeran’s hit ‘Castle on the Hill’. Henham, close to Southwold, is the home of Lattitude, one of the UK’s hippest Summer music festivals. In short, this region is cool!

The network of quiet country roads in and around the Waveney Valley puts all of these Suffolk hotspots within leisurely day trip reach of 1 Old Forge Court, so read on, book now and we hope you’ll get to enjoy at least some of these brilliant destinations as much as we do.

Think holidaying in Norfolk is all about its northern seaside towns and the Broads? Then think again and come see the gorgeous South Norfolk / North Suffolk Waveney Valley region.

Passing by Brockdish, for much of its length from its source near the village of Redgrave and Lopham Fen, till it ends its journey near Great Yarmouth, the River Waveney forms the county boundary between Norfolk and Suffolk. It meanders through an undulating, lush, green landscape dotted with picturesque villages and towns. Boasting traditional pubs and distinctive East Anglian round towered churches, the Waveney Valley is steeped in an atmosphere which offers the perfect antidote to the hurly burly of modern living, whatever the season. Situated on the Norfolk side of the Waveney, some 10-15 miles east of the river’s source, our Brockdish holiday cottage provides the perfect base from which to explore the riches of the South Norfolk and North Suffolk region.

This charming, semi-detached cottage is set in a peaceful location just off the village main street and a short stroll from the Old Kings Head pub which serves great food, fine wines and a selection of beers from some of the area’s many breweries.
